Designing Dream Draw 427: How the Byron Bay Landscape Shaped the Vision

Set on a rare and awe-inspiring piece of Byron Bay real estate, the land itself served as the blueprint for Todd’s design process.

“The land speaks to you; it tells you how the design is meant to go,” explains Todd.

This organic, site-responsive approach is evident throughout Dream Home Art Union Draw 427 — where nature and modern coastal architecture flow seamlessly together to create a space that feels both expansive and grounding.

A Staircase Like No Other: The Sculptural Centerpiece of Dream Draw 427

At the very heart of Draw 427 is a striking spiral staircase that connects all three levels of the home.

This architectural marvel doesn’t just link floors — it commands attention the moment you enter, acting as both a functional core and a sculptural statement piece.

Todd shares why placing this dramatic spiral at the entry point was a deliberate design move: “It needed to be more than stairs — it had to say something.”

The Retro-Inspired Sunken Lounge: A Modern Nod to The Brady Bunch

One of the most beloved spaces in Dream Home Art Union Draw 427 is the retro-meets-modern sunken lounge — a design feature Todd admits was directly inspired by the nostalgic charm of The Brady Bunch.

“The sunken lounge is my favourite part of the house,” says Todd. “There’s something magical about descending into a space — especially when you’re coming from that spiral staircase.”

This recessed conversation pit adds a touch of mid-century flair while maintaining the home’s coastal luxury vibe.
